The Thankless Job Of Being A Mom

I took Emma to the pediatrician on Wednesday and he said that she has a double ear infection. Since she had one two weeks ago when we went there he said that they probably never went away. She has been feeling very bad and it has been extremely evident. The poor thing also has diarrhea. I was home with her yesterday and kept trying to cuddle with her because she looked so bad. She wanted nothing of it. She was only happy if I was holding her and walking around the house - she loves to be in motion. Since she is 20 lb now, my arm was sooo tired. Every time I tried to sit with her she cried and every time I put her on the floor she cried. It was such an exhausting day. Add on top of that the fact that I had to keep changing poopy diapers, poopy clothes, and poopy sheets. After a while I just gave up and left her in her diaper.

After Jay got home she proceeded to poop on the floor. I cleaned her up and handed her to Jay so that I could clean the floor and this is what she did:

That little stinker!!! I tried to cuddle with her all day and she wanted nothing of it. The minute I gave her to Jay she laid her head on his shoulder. She even smiled at me when I went to take the picture as if to say: "Ha ha mommy.....I like to snuggle with daddy better!!!" We couldn't help but laugh. It is a good thing that she is so darn cute.
It is definately a thankless job being a mom, but worth every minute of it. I wouldn't change it for anything in the world.

Emma's New Boyfriend

This past weekend was so much fun with our friends in town. Our best friends, Vall from Phoenix, and Phil and Aimee with their new baby Benjamin from Milwaukee, flew in to spend a long weekend with us. We didn't do much except relax, play cornhole (an outdoor bean bag toss game), watch March Madness, and go out to eat a couple times. As always, it is a great time when we all get together, and the time always flies by too fast. Whenever we get together we inevitably try to think of any possible way that we could all live in the same town one day in the future.

Emma really enjoyed getting to know Benjamin better and loved having another baby in the house to play with. They did have a bit of trouble being awake at the same time as it seemed they were on exact opposite nap schedules. She really likes Benjamin, and aside from his sometime vinegar smelling feet (haha) he may be boyfriend material in the future.

Emma loved playing outside in the grass this weekend since the weather was so nice. She smiles and giggles when she gets to crawl in the grass. She also LOVES to eat grass so mom and dad have to keep a close eye on her outside.

Emma did get her first ever fever tonight. The babysitter said that she had a bit of diarrhea today and that she hasn't been eating as well. She had diarrhea once over the weekend and also vomited once over the weekend. She hasn't acted sick at all and is her normal self crawling around and smiling and laughing. I thought she might be teething. However, when she got home tonight she felt really warm. Her temp was 100.4. We gave her some children's tylenol and the fever went away in an hour and she went to bed. I am going to have to check it in the morning. Hopefully it will be ok - it is so hard when she can't talk and tell me what is wrong. I wish I could kiss and hug her and make it all better!!! She is looking forward to the weekend when her Nana and Papa Davis are coming into town for a week to visit.

Here are some pics from the weekend:

Emma is 10 months old!!!

It is hard to believe that Emma is already 10 months old! The time just flies by. As many of you know, I have been taking a picture of Emma every month to show her growth with a little 3x5 card. It is nearly impossible to take this picture now because she crumples the card and eats it and throws it the minute I put it near her. I am so glad that there are only 2 more months of this. I included a video clip at the bottom of what it is like to try and get her to hold the card for a picture.

She is our little explorer. She loves to crawl throughout the house and open as many cupboards as she can - and close them and open them etc. She LOVES the cupboard under the sink and loves to take out all the swiffer boxes and then take out all the swiffer cloths from the boxes. I figure this will occupy her for 10 minutes while I am trying to clean up the kitchen. She even likes to crawl INSIDE the cupboard and knock over as many bottles as she can. It is definately long past due for child locks on these cabinets. I also made chocolate chip cookies and hid them in a cupboard from Jay so that they will be there when our friends come into town this weekend. Of course our little Emma found the cookies in a different cupboard and kept trying to pull them out!

She loves crawling over and around things. Along with crawling into cupboards, she also was found crawling on top of her lego toy, like it was a mountain (see the picture below.) She also goes into the kitchen to the table where all the chairs are pushed in and climbs through the legs of the chairs and over the legs of the table like a little maze. It is amazing how fast she grows and changes.

Our busy schedule

We have been extremely busy since the last blog. Jay, Emma and I went to Galveston to celebrate our friend Jenni's 30th birthday a couple weeks ago. We had a great time at the beachhouse catching up with all of our Houston friends that we don't get to see often enough. We also took the ferry from the Bolivar Peninsula over to Galveston, which we had never done before. It was a lot of fun to do that and very interesting to see all of the devastation in Gilchrest and Crystal Beach from Hurricane Ike.

I am also very sad to say that Grandma Peggy passed away last week. Emma and I had a trip home planned so that we could see her, but unfortunately we didn't make it home in time. Instead we spent time with our extended family for the funeral- a wonderful celebration of her life and many interests. She lived to be 86 years old and was independent until the very end. It was a very sad weekend, but we also know that she is in a better place watching over us every day. Emma was fairly well behaved despite missing multiple naps and missing her usual bedtime during all of the festivities. By the time we got home she was absolutely exhausted and napped for hours the next day.

My mom came into town to visit this past weekend. It was a trip she had planned and contemplated not coming since she had been so busy with my Grandma. I talked her into coming to take a weekend away and to spend some quality time with Emma before returning to work. We had a good time and pretty much relaxed the entire weekend so that Emma could catch up on her sleep. She did help me plant some flowers and wash my car- which I love the extra help. Emma loves spending time with Grammy.

Over the weekend Emma also caught what I thought was a cold. She had a runny nose and goopy eyes. One eye was really swollen one morning and it went to the other eye the next day. It was completely swollen shut in the morning, but got better as the day went on. Her eyes continued to be goopy and her nose didn't stop running so I finally took her to the doctor. He said that she has some type of bacterial infection in her eyes. We got an antibiotic and some eye drops for her. For those of you who have never had to put eye drops in a 10 month old, I would love for you to try with Emma. It is practically impossible. It takes one person to hold her and her arms down and another to pry open her eyes. I never can actually tell if I got any into her eye. I had to stay home from work with her Wednesday and I felt so bad for her. She obviously did not feel good and was very clingy. She wanted to be in my lap the entire morning and when she wasn't she was clinging to my leg. She seemed to feel better in the afternoon as she was crawling all over the place and pulling up to stand over and over.
